News | Mr. Jeffrey Zee Attends Forum on “Place Spirit of Commercial Space” as Guest

The Forum on “Place Spirit of Commercial Space” was held in Forum Zone A, Hall N5, Shanghai New International Expo Centre by designcool and Shanghai CMP Sinoexpo International Exhibition Co., Ltd.

How does business inherit the spirit of place? It heavily depends on the natural endowment of commercial products.

The forum was joined by Mr. Jeffrey Zee, Founder of JFR Studio, Ms. Xu Heng, Co-partner of HPP, Mr. Johnny Lin, Vice President of CallisonRTKL, Mr. Sun Tianwen, Founder and Chief Designer of Shanghai Hip-pop Architectural Decoration Design, and Ms. Han Xiaolan, Editor-in-chief of designcool – also the host of the forum. Together they discussed and shared opinions on how to define excellent commercial space, achieve higher quality and value of commercial space, make commercial space design sustainable and other topics.

Design has to be “rational” and “unexpected” at the same time. For commercial space, the spirit of place is firstly related to product forms, and then relevant to the nature, culture, and art. Only the emotion and life embodied by the spirit of place arouse our innermost perceptions and moods.

Mr. Jeffrey Zee, together with other guests and the host Ms. Han Xiaolan, also talked about his design experience and creative thinking, as well as his reflections on the relations between people, people and the environment, and people and the society in interior design. This greatly inspired the designers and friends in related industries on the spot. For the future, we hope to share more of our professional insights into space design and commercial culture, and innovative ideas.
